Client Project: Markit Mobile Marketplace

Overview

Markit is a mobile marketplace app concept that aims to connect freelance service providers with local demand. As the lead designer, I was tasked with creating an MVP prototype to validate the idaea and support initial fundraising efforts.

The Challenge

The primary goals were to design an intuitive, mobile-first user experience that would engage both service providers and task posters, and to create a clear, compelling pitch deck to secure saeed funding. The app needed to differentiate itself in a competitive landscape and provide a seamless end-to-end experience, from onboarding to task completion and payment.

The Solution

I began by defining the core user flows and mapping out key screens for the MVP. The app opens with a simple, friendly onboarding process that allows users to quickly identify as either a task poster or service provider.

For task posters, I designed an easy listing flow with prompts to gather essential information and the ability to select from curated task categories or create a custom request. The interface guides users through the process step-by-step, with clear calls to action and visual feedback.

Service providers have a dedicated dashboard to browse and filter available tasks by category, location, price, and other relevant criteria. I optimised the layout for at-a-glance scanning and one-handed mobile interaction.

To facilitate communication and coordination, I integrated in-app messaging and alerts, as well as a streamlined booking and payment process. The visual design employs a clean, approachable aesthetic to build trust and reinforce the local, community-oriented nature of the marketplace.

I iterated on the wireframes based on client feedback and conducted rapid usability testing to validate the core flows. The final MVP prototype strikes a balance between simplicity and functionality, with a focus on ease of use and clear navigation.

Results

The MVP designs were very well received by the client and have been instrumental in pitching the Markit concept to potential investors. The prototype effectively communicates the vision and value proposition, and has generated positive feedback for its user-centric approach and polished visual design.

While the app is still in the pre-launch phase, the MVP design process has set Markit up for success by validating the core experience, de-risking the concept, and generating excitement among early stakeholders. I'm confident that the user-centred design will translate into strong engagement and retention metrics post-launch.

Designing the Markit MVP was an exciting challenge to create a compelling, easy-to-use mobile experience in the service marketplace space. The project showcases the power of rapid prototyping and user testing to validate ideas, secure buy-in, and lay the foundation for a successful product.
